Sir, would she give you so much of her lips as of her tongue she oft bestows on me, you'd have enough.I would like to take this blog to talk about why I completely despise yet somehow still love Iago. He is horribly rude to his wife and women in general. This can be seen in the quote above when Iago tells Cassio that his wife nags him too much as well as in the conversation between Iago, Desdemona, and Emilia that follows this quote. In that conversation, Iago says that all women, no matter their amount of smarts or beauty, use the same tricks on men. He then states that a woman's duty is to "suckle fools and chronicle small beer", which in today's terms basically means a woman is supposed to pop out babies and make her man a sandwich (II.i.159). He is incredibly rude as well as completely lacking integrity. And he is such a hypocrite! He puts on this persona of being a nice person and not wanting to speak ill about anyone- "I had rather have this tongue cut from my mouth than it should do offense to Michael Cassio" (II.iii.200-201)- but he is the most dishonest person in the play! It annoys me so much when people try to be that sickening, clearly fake, overly-nice person. However, I still am amazed at how well Iago is able to persuade everyone to do his bidding. He is so cunning and crafty. He is playing them all, and they don't even realize it!
Until Next Time,
Alysse
