Zoe Hendricks had been teaching American History there for three years.I'm taking this blog post to talk about the ways Professor Hendricks reminds me of Mrs. Helbing, possibly the greatest teacher of all time (don't worry, Mr. Costello, you're pretty cool, too!).
1. They both teach history (see above quote).
2.Both have music obsessions. Hendricks' is "the soundtrack to The King And I" (pg 353) while Helbing's is the Beatles.
3. Both are sarcastic. (pg 353--"What is your perfume? a student once asked her. Room freshener, she said.")
4. Both are well qualified and knowledgeable in their field. (pg 354-- "Her articles . . . were generally well received . . .")
5. They both go off on random tangents, though Helbing's stories always have some relation to what is going on in class. (pg 355-- "Sometimes Professor Hendricks will take up the class's time just talking about movies she's seen.")
After going through this story a few more times, I can see there are quite a few significant differences between them. However, the first time I read it, I couldn't stop thinking about Mrs. Helbing.
Until Next Time,
Alysse
