Never Let Me Go--- Eleven

Quote from page 136:
I knew he'd be disappointed I hadn't told him anything, but at the point I hadn't thought things through properly myself and wasn't ready to tell anyone. But I hadn't minded him coming into the boiler hut after me. I hadn't minded at all. I'd felt comforted, protected almost. I did tell him eventually, but that wasn't until a few months later, when we went on our Norfolk trip.
I found that this was a great way to foreshadow the events of the next chapter. It was rather effective at keeping me interested because I wanted to know what the Norfolk trip was.

Also, Ishiguro wrote the novel in such a way that it resembles the manner in which the Guardians reveal to the students their futures. In a way, we are being "told and not told" the upcoming events in the story. Ishiguro explains donations much in the same way, carefully revealing to us just the bare minimum of what we need to know, when we need to know it.

Kathy's behavior in the barn was rather strange as well. I can't figure out why she would be looking at the porn magazines if the reason really has nothing to do with sex. She was looking at the faces, maybe studying their expressions. But I'm assuming I'll find out the reason in the next chapter when Kathy tells us the Norfolk story.

Until Next Time,
 Alysse
