"Back then, when you lost it, I used to think about it, in my head, what it would be like, if I found it and brought it to you. What you'd say, your face, all of that."Well, I was right in a way. While Tommy and Kathy don't tell each other their feelings, Ishiguro reveals these feelings even more to us. This is certainly building suspense; I'm waiting for the moment when they just give up the facade and admit they like each other.
His voice was softer than usual and he kept his eyes on the plastic case in my hand. And suddenly I became very conscious of the fact that we were the only people in the shop, except for the old guy behind the counter at the front engrossed in his paperwork.
I think Ruth knows it. That's probably why she was so angry when Tommy decided to stay with Kath instead of going with her to see Martin. I can't figure out why she would deliberately keep them apart, though. I mean, I know she can be mean and selfish, but she does care for her friends. That just seems too vicious; it would be a new low.
Now, here is a video of the Middle Class Rut song, "New Low". It has absolutely no real connection to what I was talking about. Except I said the title two sentences ago.
Until Next Time,
Alysse
