A Rose For Emily--- parte dos

Quote from pg 283:
"See Colonel Satoris." (Colonel Satoris had been dead for almost ten years.) "I have no taxes in Jefferson . . . "
Well, I couldn't do just one blog on this story! I thought I'd take "Parte Dos" to describe the character of Miss Emily and her neighbors' perceptions of her. Based on the quote above, I can see that Miss Emily has trouble with change. I now attribute this to being the cause of her inability to give up the dead bodies of both her father and husband (was Homer Barron her husband?). However, I won't lie- when I first read this story, I thought she needed to be on a sick episode of "Hoarders".

Anyway, I also noticed that she seemed intimidating to some of the townspeople. For example, when she asks for the arsenic, all she has to do to get the pharmacist to shut his trap is look at him. People were afraid of her; that's probably why no one talked to her.

I see a slight connection between the characters of Miss Emily and Boo Radley from To Kill A Mockingbird. No one really knows much about them, they stay inside their house for most of the story, and there are many rumors circulating about them.

Until Next Time,
Alysse
