Strange that it should come to her that very night to remind her of the promise she had made to her mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could.I'd like to talk about the inner conflict Eveline must be going through as she is about to leave. She wants to leave because she wants to be with Frank. Also, she is afraid of her father because he has threatened her before; she wants to leave before he can carry out these threats. However, she feels it is her duty to stay. She feels guilty for wanting to break the promise she made to her mother. She also feels guilty for wanting to leave her father despite his violent tendencies. Her father is old now, and she is the only one around to take care of him. She remembers some of the times he has been kind, and she realizes that he will probably miss her very much.
Until Next Time,
Alysse
