I left the room, and, locking the door, made a solemn vow in my own heart never to resume my labours. This destruction scene parallels the creation scene. In both scenes, Victor runs away from a problem he has just created and finds a solitary place. This doubling helps to characterize Victor because it shows his inherent reaction to a problem. But I'll get into characterization in my next blog post! Anyway, this may be pushing it, but I think this might foreshadow that post-destruction life will be very similar to post-creation life. The two are in fact very similar: Victor gets sick, some of his friends are murdered, there is a trial, and Victor meets the creature again.
There is also another appearance of the motif of the creature as being almost human. On pg 162 Walton says he hears a noise "as of a human voice, but hoarser". This mirrors the way everyone refers to him as the "figure of a man". This emphasizes the difference between the creature and humans.
Until Next Time,
Alysse
