. . . one as deformed and horrible as myself . . .One ironic thing that I found in this novel is that the creature is viewed as the being of depravity while the humans are the ones who teach him how to sin. That's not really related, but I found it interesting. Anyway, this novel parallels the creation story of Adam and Eve. It is said that when they were first created, they were perfect. They knew nothing of bad things, much like the innocent creature. Then, they ate from the Tree of Knowledge and lost their perfect world. Similarly, the creature reads and watches humans. This knowledge leads him to see the world as it really is instead of the ideal world.
Here is something I thought of while I read: what if Victor is like God? What if we are the creature? What if God views us as the ugly, imperfect, sinful beings that we are? And whose fault is it that we are beings of depravity?
Just food for thought.
Until Next Time,
Alysse
